WELCOME TO THE

DIGITAL MINDSCAPE SEARCH PORTAL

Digital Mindscape has provided you with access to several popular search engines through InfoSpace's Metacrawler. The MetaCrawler is not a search engine. It scans the databases of the web's most popular search engines for you. You have full control of your search parameters with Metacrawler, including individual key words, multiple word combinations, and the use of complete phrases.

HOW TO USE A SEARCH ENGINE

Search engines usually allow you to combine keywords using something called a Boolean function. Place your keywords in "quotes" then combine them with AND and OR operators. We suggest you use OR sparingly. For example, if you wanted to research genetically engineered food, try "genetic engineering" AND "food". Trying to narrow your search parameters? No problem. To avoid getting more information then you want, use the AND NOT operators. For example if you're looking for a new car, try "new cars" AND NOT "used". This is a very powerful tool. Be careful how you use it. It will greatly narrow your search parameters. Unfortunately, if used incorrectly it may actually impair your search. Different search engines used these functions in different ways, such as using a + or - sign instead of AND and AND NOT. Good luck, and happy surfing.
